    “白” means “white,” and “莲花” is “lotus flower.” A new term coined by Chinese netizens, this is short for “圣母白莲

    花,” literally translated as “Saint Mary white lotus flowers.” It is used sarcastically to refer to beautiful women who appear to be pure, kind and loving but in fact are evil and mean. Many men would be charmed and misled by such women.

    Example:

    A: 听说某女明星又被人揭短了，说她习惯性出轨。
