渎职

    本市福田区一警察因渎职导致嫌犯逃走被判半年有期徒刑、缓刑一年。请看本报昨日的报道：

    A police officer in Futian District has been sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year reprieve for dereliction of duty leading to the escape of a detainee.

    The runaway detainee, surnamed Qin, was recaptured by police, according to a report in Tuesday’s Southern Metropolis Daily.

    Qin was being held in a Futian detention center last year under suspicion of involvement in a 750,000-yuan (US$122,025) scam.

    The police officer, surnamed Mai, was assigned to watch over Qin when she was hospitalized at Shenzhen Armed Police Hospital last September.

    报道中的dereliction of duty就是“渎职”，形容词derelict是“失职的、荒废的”。
