Saturday to see record border crossings

THE fourth day of the seven-day National Day holiday, which is scheduled to start today, is expected to see more than 700,000 cross-border travelers at Shenzhen checkpoints, the border inspection administration predicted Monday.

The number will be the biggest daily passenger flow during a National Day holiday.

The whole holiday is expected to see a 1.7-percent increase in the number of cross-border travelers, compared with the same holiday last year, when Shenzhen’s checkpoints saw more than 4.4 million inbound and outbound travelers.

Among the heavily used checkpoints will be Luohu, Huanggang, Futian and Shenzhen Bay checkpoints.

Holiday travelers are advised to avoid daily peak hours during the holiday, which are 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

In addition, eligible travelers are strongly advised to use e-channels to avoid long queues.

To deal with the heavy travel flow, the transportation department in Hong Kong plans to increase the number of cross-border bus services during the holiday.
