Iggy Azalea denies marriage as ex files for divorce
     2014-October-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IGGY AZALEA has one more problem. The Australian rapper, 24, found herself in the midst of a legal battle, when a man claiming to be her ex reportedly filed for divorce from her.

TMZ obtained legal documents Friday from a man named Maurice Williams, who also goes by Hefe Wine, filing for divorce after what he claims was a common-law marriage. Williams writes in the papers that he and Azalea “agreed to be married, holding themselves out as man and wife and began residing together in the State of Texas on or about September 2008,” according to TMZ.

One of the few states that recognizes common-law marriage, Texas defines the institution as two people who have declared their marriage, live in the state of Texas together as man and wife, and “[represent] to others that they [are] married.”

Azalea denies she was married to Williams, and raised further questions about the legality of their relationship in the first place, as a representative for Azalea said she was 17 at the time. Williams’ claim of September 2008 puts the rapper at 18, celebrating her birthday in June 2008.

“It’s disappointing that this thief, felon, and fugitive is continuing to use the media to attack Iggy as part of his desperate and despicable attempt to keep himself in the press,” a spokesperson for Azalea said in a statement to Us Weekly. “Iggy’s federal court complaint froze Mr. Williams’ ability to trade on her fame by profiting from music he stole from her, so he has resorted to elevating his predatory relationship with a 17-year-old girl into a sham ‘marriage’ claim unsupported by any certificate or evidence.”

Azalea has already been in an ongoing legal struggle with Williams, as she sued him last month over the possession of her recordings. Further, a rumored sex tape was shopped around this past summer, purporting to show Azalea with Williams. (SD-Agencies)
