ACTRESS Angelina Jolie has been made an honorary dame by U.K. Queen Elizabeth at a private ceremony in Buckingham Palace.
Jolie was recognized for her campaigning to end sexual violence in war zones, and for services to U.K. foreign policy.
She was presented with the insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order, of St. Michael and St. George.
Jolie is a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative in 2012.
The U.S. actress said at the time that it meant “a great deal to receive an honor related to foreign policy.”
She was among 1,149 people to receive an honor for their contribution to British society in the 2014 Queen’s birthday list.
