Student, 17, dies from jump off school building
     2014-October-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A FEMALE Shenzhen student died Wednesday after jumping off a school building in Henggang, Longgang District, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported Thursday.

The girl, a Senior 2 student surnamed Liu, 17, allegedly jumped off the fifth floor in Henggang High School on Wednesday morning. Subsequent hospital rescue efforts at Henggang People’s Hospital failed to revive her as she suffered heavy brain injuries and had her cervical vertebra fractured.

A preliminary forensic examination ruled out the possibility of murder, but Liu’s father doubted that his daughter died in a suicidal jump because her body had no obvious wounds that would likely occur in a fall.

The grief-stricken father said he rushed to the school after receiving a phone call from his daughter’s head teacher Wednesday morning, stating that his daughter was absent from her morning lesson. At the school, the father was told that her daughter returned to her classroom but his request to see his daughter was rejected by the head teacher. A few minutes later he got the news that his daughter was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

The father said his daughter, who was a boarding student, showed no signs of abnormality Sunday night when he accompanied her to school.

He and his wife each received a text message Wednesday morning from their child with contents showing the daughter’s love for her parents.

The father said she never expressed her love for them in words although she had sent gifts to him on Father’s Day.

He doubted that it could be possible that his daughter would commit suicide since she had been a well-behaved girl with a good academic performance and no emotional problems.

The father suspected that either the school had dereliction of duty or her daughter’s head teacher had lied to him, because his daughter jumped down her dormitory building when she should be in her classroom.

The case remains under investigation. (Anna Zhao)
