THE 8-year-old girl who suffered brain damage in a truck-cab crash on Beihuan Boulevard that killed three people Sunday was still in a coma by 7 p.m. yesterday, Nanshan People’s Hospital said on its microblog.

Though her vital signs were stable, the girl’s life was still in danger, the hospital said. She also suffered bone fractures, lung damage and burns on 20 percent of her skin.

Shenzhen police said yesterday that the truck was coming down a viaduct to Beihuan Boulevard from Nanping Expressway when the driver lost control and collided with five cars going in the same direction before rolling over a fence and crashing into the BYD taxi head-on.

The cab driver, Wei, 52, a native of Anhui, the girl’s mother, Chen, 32, and her brother, Fang, were all killed on the spot. The truck driver, Zhao, 43, was unhurt, but a passenger in the truck was injured.

According to the girl’s father, who was not in the taxi, the three were on their way back home after dinner at his mother-in-law’s home in Nanshan.

The truck was suspected of having popped a tire before it lost control. Its driver has been taken into custody and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
