    Fuel surcharge

THE fuel surcharge of Shenzhen’s green cabs will be lowered by 1 yuan (US$0.16) starting today, the city’s development and reform commission said.

The surcharge for red cabs, now 2 yuan per ride, will remain unchanged.

The adjustment of the surcharge is the result of a price adjustment to No. 92 gasoline, which was lowered from 7.38 yuan per liter to 7.13 yuan per liter Oct. 17.

    Dengue fever cases

THE number of dengue fever cases in Shenzhen has increased to 289 and 215 people have been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.

None of the cases have resulted in death, Shenzhen’s center for disease control and prevention said Tuesday.

Guangdong authorities had reported 38,753 dengue fever cases by Tuesday.

    Centenarians

PINGSHAN New Area is home to eight centenarians, although there are only 38,000 hukou (permanent residency) residents in the new area.

That means there are 2.1 centenarians for every 10,000 people in Pingshan, which is the highest proportion among all of Shenzhen’s districts and new areas.

Of the eight centenarians in Pingshan, only one of them is a male.

    Stray dogs

LAW enforcement officers in Bantian Subdistrict, Longgang District, have in the past few days captured five stray dogs and sent them to an animal protection association in Futian District.

So far this year, law enforcement officers in the subdistrict have captured and transferred 64 stray dogs, causing a significant drop in the number of incidents in which residents are either frightened or injured.

    Free beach access

SHENZHEN will open two beaches that charge entrance fees — Xichong and Huwan — to the public for free, according to a letter written by Shenzhen’s urban planning commission. The letter is a response to suggestions made by Zhang Xuehu, a local political adviser.

The commission has drafted two regulations concerning beach management and will gradually open more beaches to the public for free.

    Missing bus station

A SIGN at a bus station in Bao’an District that was seen yesterday read: “No buses will stop here for the time being because the bus station is not in use. We apologize for any inconvenience. — Shenzhen Municipal Transportation Commission.” No information about bus operations was available at the station on Songbai Road in Shiyan Subdistrict, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.
