Application for expats talent show starts

THE fifth Shenzhen Expats Chinese Talent Competition has now started to receive applications from across the Peal River Delta region.

Organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Information Office, Futian District Foreign Affairs Office and Shenzhen Daily, the annual contest aims to encourage local expats who possess enthusiasm for Chinese-language study and Chinese culture to show off their talents and share knowledge with people from the local community.

As always, expat applicants must be at least 6 years old, live in Shenzhen or other parts of the Pearl River Delta region, and must not be native Chinese speakers.

To enter the final round, contestants must pass the preliminary stage, which requires them to email the organizer two videos — a speech in Chinese and a video displaying a talent related to Chinese culture (both videos should be less than five minutes long) — along with a registration form.

The topic for this stage of the competition is “Discover the Beauty of Shenzhen.”

According to the organizer, the final contest will have three parts, namely a Chinese language speech, a Q&A on Chinese culture and a talent show.

Applicants can call 8351-9310 or email shenzhendaily@126.com for more details. They can also log on to www.shenzhenstuff.com to find more information.

The application deadline is Nov. 23.

Last year, more than 300 expats from more than 40 countries and regions registered for the competition and Spanish teenager Alejandro Corpa took home the first prize of 8,000 yuan (US$1,311).
