AN international public art week is scheduled to open in Bijia Hill Park in Futian District on Monday.
The art week is being organized by the foreign affairs office of the district government and Huafu Subdistrict Office.
Artists from countries including France, Ukraine and Japan will bring more than 10 various art performances to local residents, such as dances, poetry readings, concerts and art installations.
Artists will also open a workshop during the week to get local residents involved in creating art.
Japanese dancer Yuko Kawamoto will host a workshop between 3 and 5:30 p.m. from Nov. 11 to 13 in Lianhua-yicun residential community, teaching basic skills of butoh, a form of Japanese dance theater that originated in the 1960s.
Dancers who display an outstanding performance at the workshops will perform with Kawamoto at the end of the art week.
Xie Yuqiu, an inheritor of the traditional kirin dance form, will also open a workshop between 3 and 5:30 p.m. in the park Nov. 15.
Considered an intangible cultural heritage by the Chinese Government, kirin was invented by ancient peasants to pray for peace, sound weather and good harvests.
Those who are interested can call 26011800 to inquire about the workshops.
“The art week will also include a performance from a French modern dancer and a Ukrainian independent dancer, Kateryna Gavrylova,” said Chen Dong with Daken Art Organization, which is tasked with carrying out the event.
