KEIRA KNIGHTLEY’S “Begin Again” will open on Chinese screens this year, according to Ivanhoe Pictures.
The releasing date has not been decided yet.
The comedy-drama, directed by John Carney, premiered at the 2013 Toronto Film Festival under the title “Can a Song Save Your Life?” and was acquired by The Weinstein Co. The movie stars Knightley as a singer-songwriter discovered by a down on his luck record executive, played by Mark Ruffalo, who then produces an album recorded in public locations around New York City.
“Begin Again” grossed US$16 million in the United States and another US$47 million internationally including South Korea, where it has now become the highest grossing English language independent film of all time.
The film also stars Hailee Steinfeld and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine in his first movie role.
“Building on the momentum of the film’s win for Best Music at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival, we could not be more thrilled to now bring ‘Begin Again’ to the general public in China. Its universal themes and stirring music can be appreciated across every culture,” said Ivanhoe CEO John Penotti.(SD-Agencies)
