微懒人
     2014-November-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

“微” is “micro,” “懒” is “lazy,” and “人” is “a person.” Unlike a truly lazy person, a “micro-lazy person” still does what is required of him or her at work. But these people will not do overtime or spend off-job hours socializing with clients. They refuse to spend all their time and energy on work just to get a promotion or earn a higher salary. Caring more about what they feel themselves rather than what their boss may think of them, these people are labeled “micro-lazy.”

    Example:

    A: 你们办公室新来的小王怎么样?

Nǐmen bàngōngshì xīnlái de xiǎowáng zěnmeyàng?

How is Wang doing? I mean, the newcomer in your office.

    B: 他工作能力不错,不过不是特别勤奋。

Tā gōngzuò nénglì búcuò, búguò búshì tèbié qínfèn。

He is efficient, but not very industrious.

    A: 他是个微懒人,家庭情况良好,不求出人头地,只求日子过得轻松如意。

Tā shì ge wēilǎnrén, jiātíng qíngkuàng liánghǎo, bùqíu chūrén-tóudì, zhǐqíu rìzi guò de qīngsōng rúyì。

He is one of the “micro-lazy.” He comes from a well-off family, and is not driven enough to make it big. He just wants to live a happy easy life.
