Roadside parking can be paid via WeChat, Alipay
     2014-November-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

LOCAL drivers are now able to pay for roadside parking via WeChat and Alipay, according to Thursday’s report by Shenzhen Special Zone Daily.

Drivers can pay for roadside parking at any of the 1,673 parking spots in four pilot areas, including Zhuzilin in Futian District, southern Futian District, Nanshan District’s CBD area and Tianbei in Luohu District.

The payment can be made via either the WeChat account Yitingche or the Yitingche section of Alipay.

Drivers can also pay for roadside parking via an application called Yitingche.

The city’s transportation commission has finished planning 15,188 parking spots on 299 roads, that will be put into use at the end of this year. These spots are located in Luohu, Futian, Nanshan and Yantian districts.

Drivers will be allowed five minutes of free parking before fee calculations start. They will also receive a reminder on their mobile phone 10 minutes before their time expires.

If a driver does not vacate a space before their time expires, they will be charged double the normal fee for the additional time, the center said.

Shenzhen has more than 3 million vehicles registered in the city, according to the commission. However, there are now only about 800,000 parking spaces across the city.(Martin Li)
