To enjoy the majestic greenway system in Shenzhen, which travels along the coastline from Nanshan to Yantian, you don’t really have to own your own bicycle. To encourage the usage of these beautifully landscaped paths, the local government has set up easy-to-access bicycle rental stations outside many malls and Metro stations.

    In Luohu and Yantian districts, the bicycle initiative operates with the Shenzhentong card, which is most commonly used on buses and the Metro. But people have to deposit a reservation fee and open a bike rental account with the Shenzhentong card.

    The card systems used for bicycle rentals in Futian and Nanshan are separate systems. To get the bike rental card, take your ID card or passport, a copy of the ID card/passport and 295 yuan (100 yuan as deposit, 180 yuan as the yearly rental fee and 15 yuan to cover the cost of the card itself) to the service windows. The first two rental hours will be free, and after that, 1 yuan is charged for each extra hour. Bikes rented in Futian and Nanshan can be returned at any rental station in the two districts.
