Indict

    起诉

    美国密苏里州大陪审团决定不起诉枪杀非裔青少年的白人警察后,弗格森市爆发一连串暴力事件。请看本报昨日的报道:

Chaos returned to the streets of Ferguson after a grand jury declined to indict a white police officer in the death of Michael Brown — a decision that enraged protesters who set fire to buildings and cars and looted businesses in the area where the unarmed, black 18-year-old was fatally shot.

Monday night’s destruction appeared to be much worse than last summer’s protests, with at least a dozen businesses badly damaged or destroyed.

报道中的indict就是“起诉、控告”,通常说indict someone for something或者indict someone on a charge of something, 名词是indictment。例如:

He has been detained, and the police retain the right to indict him.

    他已被拘留,警方保留了起诉他的权利。
