CHINESE actress Gao Yuanyuan and fellow celebrity Mark Chao held their wedding ceremony in Taipei on Friday.
Gao, born in Beijing in 1979, is considered a “National Goddess” in China for her beauty and acting skills. Zhao, five years her junior, is a Taiwanese-Canadian actor, singer and model.
The couple exchanged rings and vows in front of more than 60 celebrities, with director Chen Kaige serving as their chief witness and Tsai Yueh-hsun and Johnny To as the presenter for each side. Star host Jacky Wu Tsung-hsien emceed the wedding, and Ethan Ruan Jing-tian was the leading best man.
Gao, accompanied by her father, walked to Zhao and said, “I waited many years before I met you. Home is where you are.”
The bridegroom vowed that he would be faithful to Gao forever, care for Gao’s family as much as he cares for his own and make Gao and their family his priority at all times.
The two met while co-starring in the film “Caught in the Web” in 2011. In April 2012, the couple’s secret relationship was exposed after a series of photos were snapped of them meeting in a hotel. The two registered for marriage in Beijing earlier this year.
Lots of Chinese netizens left comments bidding the new couple happiness. Comments were usually along the lines of, “God marries goddess, what a nice couple!”
Both the bride and groom are in the middle of projects and took a few days off for the wedding, which means they have to postpone their honeymoon to a later date.(Debra Li)
