THE Chinese Embassy in Indonesia yesterday urged Indonesian authorities to investigate a rape case immediately and completely following local media reports that a Chinese female tourist was raped by two security officers in Jakarta’s international airport days ago.
The victim chose not to stay in Indonesia despite being requested to assist the investigation and has flown back to China after reporting the case to police, the embassy said.
According to the embassy, the Indonesian authorities have named two suspects. The Jakarta airport has made a public apology on the case.
The suspects may be charged for forcing sexual intercourse with a woman, with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison, the Jarkarta Post reported Saturday.
The victim, who only spoke Mandarin, said she had been sedated and taken to a nearby hotel. She claimed that she was held in the hotel room for two days and was raped by the two men.
The suspects had admitted that they had intercourse with the female tourist after helping her to find a hotel, police said.
