THE Supreme People’s Court (SPC) will establish its first two circuit courts in Shenzhen and Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning Province, next month, Sun Jungong, a spokesperson for SPC, said Monday.
Sun said the first circuit court in Shenzhen and the second circuit court in Shenyang will both start handling cases in early 2015.
According to Sun, the circuit courts are being established to facilitate judicial cases filed by the public from local communities.
They will also allow the SPC headquarters to concentrate on judicial policies and try important cases that have profound significance in unifying the application of law.
The SPC move followed a decision from the fourth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in late October. According to the decision, the SPC was ordered to set up circuit courts for major administrative, civil and commercial cases involving different administrative regions.
On Sunday, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress appointed Liu Guixiang and Hu Yunteng as presidents of the circuit courts in Shenzhen and Shenyang, respectively.
Judgments made by the circuit courts will be final, according to Sun.
The Shenzhen court will have jurisdiction over Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan.(Xinhua)
