A masked man, or “Vijanera,” parades during the carnival in Silio, northern Spanish province of Cantabria on Sunday. The celebration of “La Vijanera” is the first carnival on the calendar in Europe and is a colorful masquerade involving approximately 60 characters (all male) that groups different acts with a desire to banish the last year and pave the way to the next year.
