“SELMA,” the Golden Globe-nominated film about Martin Luther King Jr., will screen for free in the Alabama city that gave the film its title.
U.S. talk show host Oprah Winfrey announced the news to the people of Selma, on behalf of the film’s producers.
She said that they were proud to share this powerful film depicting the historic events that took place there 50 years ago.
The film, directed by Ava Du Vernay, depicts the 1965 civil rights protests led by King in Selma. It led to President Lyndon Johnson advocating for the Voting Rights Act.

Paramount said that the film will be shown for free to the town’s citizens beginning Jan. 9.
“Selma” has been nominated for four Golden Globes, including best picture, best actor, best director and best song.(SD-Agencies)
