Local expats are invited to take part in volunteer activities at weekends during this month, said an official with Futian District Foreign Affairs Department yesterday.
Volunteers will be organized to take part in an English corner activity at Bijia Hill Park on Sungang West Road and Lianhua Hill Park on Hongli Road in Futian.
The English corner at Bijia Hill Park is due to be held between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each Sunday. And the one at Lianhua Hill Park is scheduled to take place between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. each Saturday.
Volunteers are expected to teach English songs or tell English stories to children, as well as communicate with children who are enthusiastic about English-language studies.
Expats who can speak fluent English and are good at communicating with children are preferred.
Two expat volunteers are needed for each English corner activity at Bijia Hill Park and three are needed each time at Lianhua Hill Park.
In addition, expats are invited to visit seniors at Futian Welfare Center on Xinsha Road between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Jan. 31.
Volunteers are expected to give greetings to seniors and help celebrate their birthdays.
Outgoing and patient expats who have basic Chinese-language skills and some artistic talent are preferred.
Two expat volunteers are needed for each visit.
Futian is home to the first expat volunteer team in Shenzhen, which was established in March 2013 and has members from more than 10 countries.
