BRITISH actor Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancee Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child, a representative for Cumberbatch said Wednesday.

    “They are both over the moon,” the actor’s representative Karon Maskill said in a statement.

    The actor and Hunter met in 2009 while shooting the thriller “Burlesque Fairytales,” however, they were only confirmed as a couple after they were photographed together at the French Open in April.

    Cumberbatch and Hunter, an actress and theater director, announced their engagement in Britain’s The Times in November, and the two have made multiple red-carpet appearances together since then.

    Following their old-fashioned announcement, the handsome star told Us Weekly in November he didn’t plan to make a big fuss out of his wedding. “I think I’ll be having a very private wedding,” the actor said.

    This recent baby news shouldn’t come as too much of a shock as the Golden Globe nominee did admit to London’s Daily Mail that he was looking to settle down. “It is a wonderful thing to get married young and become a father. I would love to have children,” he said back in 2013. “I can’t wait to do an interview like this and just talk about my child.”

    Cumberbatch dated his college girlfriend and actress Olivia Poulet for 12 years until calling it quits in 2011. Following their split, he dated artist Anna James until 2012.(SD-Agencies)
