Hathaway heading to the stage
     2015-January-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

OSCAR-WINNING actress Anne Hathaway will be playing something a little different this spring — an Air Force fighter pilot in a one-woman stage show.

The Public Theater said Wednesday that the Academy Award-winner will star in George Brant’s play “Grounded” starting April 7. It tells the story of a fighter pilot reassigned to 12-hour shifts flying remote-controlled drones after she gets pregnant.

The Public Theater said it explores “the complicated consequences of waging war without leaving home.” The play was named one of the top 10 plays in London in 2013 by British newspapers the Evening Standard and The Guardian.

Visionary director Julie Taymor, behind the beauty of “The Lion King,” will direct.

Hathaway, who won an Oscar for Tom Hooper’s “Les Miserables,” returns to the Public Theater for the first time after she last trod the boards as Viola in a 2009 production of “Twelfth Night” at the open-air Delacorte Theater in New York’s Central Park.(SD-Agencies)
