An economic fraud suspect (C) under police escort lands at Beijing Capital International Airport yesterday, after 10 years on the run in Italy, marking the first extradition of its kind from an European country. The suspect, surnamed Zhang, is alleged to have stolen more than 1.4 million yuan (US$223,700) from clients while she worked for a securities company in Hebei Province between January in 2000 and January in 2005, according to the Ministry of Public Security. Zhang escaped to Italy in 2005. The ministry has established law enforcement cooperation with 189 countries, with 49 police liaison officers in 27 countries to hunt Chinese fugitives.
