A MAN suspected of killing a couple and a child of theirs last month in Luohu District was arrested in Shanxi Province and taken back to Shenzhen on Saturday for further investigation, Chinese-language media reported yesterday.
Police found mobile phones, wallets and rings of the victims at the suspect’s home in Yangquan, Shanxi Province.
The victims, including an 8-year-old boy, were found dead in the Lixin Garden housing estate in Luohu District by a relative of the family who paid a visit Feb. 24. The relative had not heard from the family for quite a few days and went to check on them. She asked the property management office to open the door and they found the victims lying in a pool of blood.
Shenzhen police set up a task force to investigate the murders. They located the suspect, who had fled to his hometown after allegedly killing the victims, within 28 hours.
Police arrested the suspect, identified as Li, in Pingding County on Feb. 26.
According to a security guard with the housing estate, the family had lived in the housing estate for years and had moved to their new apartment a few months ago. The family, natives of Guangdong, sold garments and clothes in Dongmen, Luohu District.
The deceased couple had two children, one of whom died in the killings. The other child had been taken back to their hometown for Spring Festival.
Police said the motive for the homicides is still unknown and an investigation is continuing.
