WILLIAM SHATNER cannot attend the funeral of his friend and “Star Trek” co-star Leonard Nimoy because of a prior commitment for a charity ball, the actor said on Twitter on Saturday.
Shatner and Nimoy portrayed the two best-known characters in the original “Star Trek” television series launched in 1966 and in a series of films, with Shatner playing the adventurous Captain Kirk and Nimoy as the logic-bound, half-alien Mr. Spock. Nimoy, who had battled chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, died Friday at age 83 at his home in Los Angeles.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON (R) is standing up for John Travolta. During the Oscars red carpet, a photo was snapped — and went viral — of Travolta with his hands around Johansson’s waist, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Johansson’s odd facial expression creeped out many who shared the photo. Later in the show, Travolta got handsy with Idina Menzel’s face, fueling the fire. But Johansson, who co-starred with Travolta in “A Love Song for Bobby Long,” says there was nothing weird about their one-sided embrace.
