    Yuppie flu

    慢性疲劳症

    Yuppie是“雅痞”(young urban professional),指受过良好教育、住在大城市里、有一份高收入工作的年轻人,这个词出现在上世纪80年代初。Yuppie flu是什么呢?请看对话:

A: How about playing tennis with me after work today?

B: Rain check. I am suffering from Yuppie flu lately and really want to head home and rest on the couch.

Note: Yuppie flu is a 1980s name for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), reflecting the skeptical way the disease was first viewed. Medical experts now know that CFS is a real condition that can seriously affect quality of life and health for half a year or longer. People with CFS generally complain of fatigue that doesn't improve with rest. People also call it Royal Free disease or Tapanui flu, while yuppie flu is seldom used nowadays because it is considered pejorative.
