Taiwan-born singer Wu Bai will start his latest Chinese mainland tour in Shenzhen in April at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.
Known as the king among Chinese rock singers, Wu promises to bring audiences a brand-new stage show in an attempt to break stereotypes about rock concerts. He said he wants to share his music with people from different backgrounds and different ages. Instead of reaching out to niche fans, Wu is hoping to reach a mass audience and share his feelings and thoughts about himself, the world and life.
Wu will perform his specially chosen songs at the concert from among the 300 songs he has composed over the past 25 years. All the songs will be in their original forms.
Band China Blue will join Wu to make the stage a sea of special lights and music.
Wu formed the band Wu Bai & China Blue with Dean “Dino” Zavolta on drums, Yu Ta-hao on keyboards, Chu Chien-hui on bass guitar and Wu himself on lead guitar and lead vocals. Wu is considered “one of the biggest pop music stars in East and Southeast Asia.”
Some contemporary dancers from his music videos will surprise audiences with an unplugged show. Wu said he would also sing a few new songs from his 2015 album, which hasn’t been released yet.
Wu made his music debut in 1990 with his single “Xiaorenguo.” His famed songs include “Norwegian Wood,” “A Sudden Self,” “Wanderer’s Love Song” and “Time and Tide.”
Wu was a straight-A student when he was young. He always got all 100s on each of his five exams, which is why his family always called him “Wu Bai [Five Hundred].”
