The Karpenters Band from Britain will sing the greatest hits of the U.S. band The Carpenters at the Shenzhen Concert Hall on May 24.
The band members are Laurie Briggs (vocals), Caroline Boaden (drums) and Russell Henderson (saxophone/flute). Having studied at the Yorkshire College of Music and Drama, Briggs has performed as a solo artist all across the United Kingdom, as well as toured worldwide and fronted several well-known bands.
Boaden studied at Leeds College of Music and has been playing and touring worldwide for over 20 years. Henderson gained many years of performance experience, establishing himself on the Scottish jazz scene before relocating to Leeds, where he achieved a first-class honors degree at Leeds College of Music.
The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter. Together, they produced a distinctively soft musical style, later becoming one of the best-selling music artists of all time. They were ended in 1983 by Karen’s death from heart failure brought on by complications of anorexia.
The duo’s brand of melodic pop produced a record-breaking run of hit recordings on the American Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, and they became leading sellers in the soft rock, easy listening and adult contemporary genres.
The Carpenters had three No. 1 singles and five No. 2 singles on the Billboard Hot 100.
