Holiday traffic woes in SZ east
     2015-April-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HOLIDAYMAKERS and tomb sweepers are putting a heavy strain on roads to the city’s east and causing congestion on the Eastern Coastal Expressway. Areas facing parking difficulty include Dameisha, Yangmeikeng and Jiaochangwei in Dapeng New Area.

“I was in a traffic jam on Shenyan Road around noon,” said a driver on his micorblog yesterday, “It took me two hours and I only made it 1 kilometer.”

The heavy vehicle flow has forced police to impose temporary traffic controls at the turn from Luosha Road to the Eastern Coastal Expressway. The eastward vehicles also caused slow traffic between Tuyang Tollgate and Kuichong Tollgate.

The roads to the city’s major cemeteries were also congested between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. yesterday, the second day of Qingming Festival holiday.

“Around 40,000 people are expected to go to the Dapeng Overseas Chinese Cemetery today, but the traffic is generally good,”said Qi Jinshui, the head of Meisha Unit of Shenzhen traffic police. To help traffic flow, Qi and other officers have imposed control on the two-lane Yanmei Road. Police also hope to head off traffic violations including illegal U-turns and illegal parking.

Train and plane trips in Guangdong and neighboring provinces have also surged during the holidays. Many travelers are choosing to visit scenic nature spots in the nearby area.

The website www.tumiu.com shows flower viewing in Jiangxi and Zhejiang as very popular trips among Shenzhen residents. Other popular vacation destinations include Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

Shenzhen Airport Ferry Terminal, the former Fuyong Ferry Terminal, saw 1,200 ferry passengers to Macao on Saturday and yesterday. That was twice as many passengers as one week before.

Operators at the airport ferry terminal canceled a morning and evening service to Hong Kong and Macao yesterday. The services will resume today.
