JUST a month after Kelly Clarkson called out British TV personality Katie Hopkins for criticizing her appearance on social media, Fox News’ Chris Wallace is now coming under fire for mocking the singer’s appearance during an interview on The Mike Gallagher Show on Friday.
The news anchor and radio host had a back-and-forth about Clarkson’s weight during the radio show. “Listen, don’t fat-shame me,” Gallagher reportedly told Wallace. “You do a lot of fat shaming. That’s the new phrase now. Fat shaming. Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow, did she blow up.”
While Wallace initially took the high road saying that Clarkson has “a lovely voice,” per the quotes posted online, he did later say, “She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while.”
Fellow Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren later took to her blog to call out Wallace for his comments. “This ‘guy snickering’ about her weight is obnoxious,” she wrote. “He should apologize.”
Clarkson had yet to comment on Wallace’s remarks.
She did, however, address her haters during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday. “I love how people think that’s new — like, ‘Welcome to the past 13 years,’” she said. “Yeah, I was the biggest girl on [‘American Idol’], too. And I wasn’t big, but people would call me big because I was the biggest one on ‘Idol,’ and I’ve kind of always gotten that.”
“It’s like, you’re just who you are,” she continued. “We are who we are. Whatever size, and it doesn’t mean that we’re gonna be that forever,” she said. “That’s the thing. Sometimes we’re more fit. Like especially me, I’m such a creative person that I yo-yo. So sometimes I’m more fit and I get into kickboxing hardcore. And then sometimes I don’t, and I’m like … I’d rather have wine.”(SD-Agencies)
