Go under 破产
Shenzhen-listed Internet technology company China Cloud Live Tech Group became the first company to default on corporate bond principal in China.
Cloud Live said Tuesday that it was short 240.6 million yuan (US$38.8 million) needed to pay back 400 million yuan in debt it sold three years ago. Despite slowing growth and corporate debt levels that have spiraled in recent years, investors in bonds, trusts, and other investment products have manage to avoid widespread default as the government has sought to maintain financial stability.
The default will throw a spotlight once more on the efficacy of China's corporate bankruptcy law, and the government's willingness to let investors incur losses when companies go under.
The company went under exactly one year after it opened.
