Pancake people
     2015-April-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Pancake是“煎饼”,people是“人”。Pancake people是什么意思呢?请看对话:

    A: What’s hot on Weibo?

B: I didn’t check. I’ve decided to spend less time browsing the Internet and more time reading history books.

    A: Why is that?

B: I don’t want to be one of the pancake people, although everyone tends to in this Internet era.

Note: Pancake people refers to the Internet-dependant generation, who read widely on the Web, but superficially and without delving into any matter. Like pancakes, individuals are flat and spread themselves thin with small bits of information. The term came from an interview with American playwright Richard Foreman. “I think we’re producing a race of people who are paper-thin — almost pancake people — who cover a lot of territory,” Foreman said.
