    Buzzard's luck

    坏运气

    Buzzard是一种食腐鸟类,尤指红头美洲鹫,buzzard's luck是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: Did you watch the game last night? How was it?

B: You know the Yankees have buzzard's luck when Derek Jeter gets hurt in his first game of the season.

Note: This term refers specifically to carrion-feeding North American vultures that are called buzzards. Though hawk-like in terms of beak and eye sight, buzzards cannot hunt. Instead, they circle the sky all day looking for ready meat – meat from dead bodies. When Americans see buzzards sitting perched on a high branch, they become sympathetic. They say to themselves, these poor buzzards have run out of luck again. They can't hunt, and animals around them don't die. Where is their next meal going to come from? Therefore, "buzzard's luck" comes to mean "bad luck."
