Meaning:

    “微” means “micro,” and “店” means “store.” This term comes from “微信” (WeChat), an instant message platform used on mobile phones and computers popular among Chinese. On the platform there is a function called Moments that allows users to share information in forms of text, video, picture and audio with friends. Many Chinese netizens have seen the potential of selling products to their friends via the platform and stores opened on Wechat are generally called “微店” (WeChat stores).

    A: 听说小林辞职了。你知不知道他要干什么？

    Tīngshuō xiǎolín cízhí le。Nǐ zhībùzhīdào tā yào gàn shénme?

    I hear that Lin has quit his job. What’s his plan?

    B: 他在经营一家微店，专卖韩国进口护肤品。

    Tā zài jīngyíng yījiā wēidiàn, zhuān mài hánguó jìnkǒu hùfūpǐn。

    He is running a WeChat store selling skincare products imported from South Korea.

    A: 啊，好像女孩子喜欢的事业。

    A, hǎoxiàng nǚháizi xǐhuan de shìyè。

    Wow, that sounds like something girls would prefer to do.

    B: 可别小看他，他现在每个月挣的是我们的三四倍。

    Kě bié xiǎokàn tā, tā xiànzài měi gè yuè zhèng de shì wǒmen de sānsì bèi。
