Blood bond: DNA test reunites family
     2015-May-1  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A YOUNG man, who was abducted 18 years ago, has been reunited with his biological parents in Guizhou Province thanks to a DNA test done by Shenzhen police.

Since being abducted at 4 years old, the man has known that the couple raising him in Fujian Province weren’t his real parents.

“I remembered a middle-aged man tricking me when I was playing on the open ground (18 years ago) ... and taking me on a motorbike, then a train,” recalled the 23-year-old man, who was only identified as Xiaoqing by Thursday’s Southern Metropolis Daily.

Xiaoqing knew he was abducted, but the couple that raised him in Fujian took good care of him before giving birth to their own son.

He started looking for his biological parents on the Internet in 2013.

He learned from a CCTV program two months ago that Shenzhen police used a DNA test to reunite a son with his Sichuan parents 17 years after being separated.

Xiaoqing sought out the police officer from the program, Wen Miaoyang, to help him find his biological parents.

Local police took the young man’s blood sample in March and entered it into a national database for missing and abducted children. Xiaoqing’s DNA matched with a couple who had reported him missing in 1997 and also provided their DNA.

The son and the parents were reunited in Shenzhen on Wednesday.

Xiaoqing’s uncle remembered the effect the abduction had on the young man’s father.

“His father went out to look for him several days. We thought he might be suffering from a mental problem,” said the uncle.

Xiaoqing said he will take care of both his biological parents and the couple that raised him.

Shenzhen’s anti-abduction office has helped 19 people find their biological parents since 2014, the paper said.
