Get the juices flowing:creative culture in Pingshan
     2015-May-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A NUMBER of cultural projects in Pingshan New Area are taking shape as the local government continues to support the development of the cultural industry.

Huayi Brothers spent 1.6 billion yuan (US$250 million) on three new plots of land that will be used for a cultural project.

Alongside the Pingshan River — Maluan Mountain Creative Alley, the plots are expected to break ground this year. One of the plots is Pengxi National Mineral Park, which Huayi intends to develop into a “dreamland” themed amusement park.

Pingshan has attracted several important cultural projects through the China International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) in the past five years. The new projects are expected to stimulate regional growth.

Two other new cultural projects were brought to Pingshan New Area during the 10th ICIF.

China Wenhui Chinese-Media Holdings Ltd. will build an Overseas Chinese Media Center with Forbes Financial Centers Development Ltd. with an investment of 3.6 billion yuan. The project will include a headquarter for the Forbes Forum along with a new business college. The projects are expected to attract over 100 international media groups and companies.

Meanwhile, Central Digital TV Media Co. Ltd. will build a new “cultural town” called “Central Digital Omnimedia Cultural Town” in the new area at a cost of 9 billion yuan.

At the ICIF in 2011, Cartoon Nation International Culture Town and a cultural industrial base for China Cultural Media Group Ltd. were opened in Pingshan.

A team led by Sun Yongle, the creator of the famous Chinese cartoon character Pleasant Sheep, will lead the development of the Cartoon Nation International Culture Town.

The cultural industrial base of China Cultural Media Group Ltd. (CCMG), called CCMG Original Culture & Art Town, will accommodate 1,500 companies and form a State-level cultural cluster. In 2011, Pingshan also launched Kendu International Animation Town, which attracted many film and animation masters from abroad, including Davy Liu, founder and chairperson of the American animation company Kendu Films.

During the 2012 ICIF, the Pingshan Creative Park of Sculpture Arts became a subvenue of the ICIF. The 150,000-square-meter park has been the subvenue of the ICIF for the past three years. Art studios in the park have obtained more than 300 patents and have sold their sculptures to 45 countries and regions.

In 2012, culture-related industries generated a total output value of 3.03 billion yuan, up 16.9 percent from a year earlier. The total export volume of culture-related industries in Pingshan reached 1.83 billion yuan in 2012.

In recent years, Pingshan has attracted several important cultural projects. A belt of cultural and creative projects along Maluan Mountain and Pingshan River is already taking shape. The city government is also building a 40-square-kilometer Shenzhen Creative Valley in the belt area, where Pingshan River and Maluan Mountain meet.

The Creative Valley will become a cluster of cultural and creative industries. It will also serve as a pilot area for cooperation between Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.

It is expected to generate an annual output value of 20 billion yuan in 2015 and to produce an annual output value of 100 billion yuan by 2020.
