SHENZHEN police have recovered a further HK$3.7 million (US$477,300) of the ransom linked to the kidnapping of the Bossini heir Queenie Rosita Law, Hong Kong’s The Standard newspaper reported. The money was located in a forest near Luohu.
It was revealed in a Weibo post by the police. It said they recovered a backpack from the forest that contained the alleged hostage’s accessories, and a pile of HK$1,000 notes.
The police said a suspect’s testimony led to the discovery.
Authorities have arrested five more suspects allegedly involved in Hong Kong’s biggest kidnapping for ransom in 17 years with Shenzhen police arresting three fugitives May 5, after a seven-day manhunt.
Law, the grand-daughter of Bossini’s founder, was kidnapped in April and released after payment of a reported ransom of HK$28 million.
According to earlier reports, the two men apprehended May 5 in Shenzhen are 31 and 22 years old, surnamed Wang and Xiong, respectively, and were apparently waiting for the arrival of an accomplice surnamed Zhang from Hong Kong.
Zhang, 29, from Guizhou Province, was picked up May 3 attempting to cross back into the mainland. Zhang made no effort to disguise his identity when he was stopped traveling on a two-way permit.
He was taken to Choi Hung MTR station on the morning of May 5 for a crime scene investigation. Zhang is believed to be part of an eight-man Putonghua-speaking gang, which broke into Law’s Sai Kung residence in the small hours of April 25, fleeing with HK$2 million in cash and valuables.
Law had her limbs bound in tape when she was abducted during the heist while her parents slept. She was later freed on a HK$28 million ransom, carried downhill blindfolded from a cave in Ma On Shan Country Park’s Fei Ngo Shan after three days of captivity.
Suitcases bugged by police and used by Law’s father to deliver the ransom — negotiated down from HK$40 million — were found empty in the park. (SD-Agencies)
