Meaning:
“白帽” means “white hat,” and “黑客,” sometimes called “骇客” in Taiwan, refers to “hacker,” someone who seeks and exploits weaknesses in a computer system or computer network. A white hat hacker, however, is a computer security specialist who breaks into protected systems and networks to test and asses their security. White hat hackers use their skills to improve security by exposing vulnerabilities before malicious hackers (black hat hackers) can detect and exploit them. Although the methods used are similar, if not identical, to those employed by malicious hackers, white hat hackers have permission to employ them against the organization that has hired them.
Example:
A: 调查显示,90后的年轻人是中国白帽黑客的主力军。
Diàochá xiǎnshì, jǐulíng hòu de niánqīng rén shì zhōngguó báimào hēikè de zhǔlìjūn。
A survey revealed that young people born in the 1990s make up the majority of white hat hackers in China.
B: 为什么叫白帽?
Wèishénme jiào báimào?
Why do we call them “white hat?”
A: 因为每部西部片里都至少有一个戴白帽的好人。
Yīnwèi měibù xībùpiān lǐ dōu zhìshǎo yǒu yīgè dài báimào de hǎorén。
Because old Western movies each had at least one white hat wearing good guy.
