Pakistani pilot sets pulses racing on social media
     2015-June-23  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

POSING in his flight overalls and aviator sunglasses, a Pakistani fighter pilot caused a stir at the Paris Air Show due to his uncanny resemblance to “Top Gun” star Tom Cruise.

Squadron Leader Yaser Mudasser has been unwittingly compared to the Hollywood actor after images of him circulated on Twitter showing off Pakistan’s new JF-17 Thunder fighter jet to a diplomat.

Cruise played cult hero Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the 1986 movie, about U.S. Navy fighter pilots.

But Mudasser played down the attention, saying, “It’s funny. One never imagines that you’ll get this kind of attention when you’re training day-in day-out.”

It came after people couldn’t help but point out the similarities of Mudasser and Cruise’s character.

Mudasser has clocked up over 600 flights in the JF-17, Pakistan’s first-ever homemade jet, which was designed and built with Chinese help.

But it was his colleague, Wing Commander Usman Ali, also channeling his inner Maverick in a pair of aviator shades, who wowed the crowds on the first day of the world’s premier air show.(SD-Agencies)
