Kung-fu frog assumes ‘Karate Kid’ stance
     2015-June-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BALANCED on one leg, a frog assumes the crane kick martial arts stance made famous in the movie “The Karate Kid.”

The amphibious kung-fu fighter, pictured in East Java, Indonesia, looks ready to deliver a devastating kick, similar to actor Ralph Macchio’s in the 1984 film.

The Reinwardt’s flying frog was snapped by Indonesian Monica Anantyowati after she spotted it practicing its moves in a field in Jember, a city in eastern East Java.

Monica, 42, of Malang, said, “I spotted this frog leaping around in some long grass and noticed it started pulling these funny moves. I was unsure of what it was doing, however soon it was showing off like a true kung-fu master.

“I was very interested in this frog and it was very tame, which made it easy to photograph.”

The frog demonstrated its Shaolin style for just a few seconds, while Monica patiently waited for more martial arts moves.

However, she watched from two meters away as the frog hopped on.

The Reinwardt’s flying frog, native to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, is a near threatened species, say the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Monica said, “I love photographing all different types of animals — photography teaches me to see things that cannot be seen with the naked eye.”
