GUANGDONG Province announced the minimum passing scores for the gaokao, the National College Entrance Examinations, and began allowing students to view their scores at noon on Thursday.
The Education Examinations Authority of Guangdong Province held a media conference Thursday morning to unveil the entry scores for different universities.
In China, universities are given different minimum scores for students to attend. The scores change every year based on the performance of test takers.
Many Chinese students see the gaokao as a make-or-break moment, although test takers who don’t get into university can take the test again next year.
To enter first-tier universities in Guangdong, students have to score at least 579 out of 750 for majors of humanities and 577 for science majors. For second-tier universities, the passing scores are 524 and 519 for the humanities and science.
Gaokao scores are available by phone, smartphone app and online.
Many provinces in China also released their lowest passing scores Thursday.
