    China growth

THE World Bank said yesterday it expects China’s economy to grow 7.1 percent this year, the same as forecast earlier, before cooling to 7.0 percent next year and 6.9 percent in 2017.

The World Bank said that a priority for the country in 2015 was to make inroads on structural adjustments while balancing reform with short-term demands.

It said State interference was the “root cause” of the financial system’s weak performance and the country’s economic deceleration would affect wages more than jobs.

    Toyota China sales

TOYOTA Motor Corp. posted its fastest monthly sales growth in China in more than a year in June, keeping the Japanese automaker on track to meet its full-year sales target for the world’s largest automaker.

The company and its two local joint venture partners sold about 100,600 cars in the world’s largest auto market last month, a 41.7 percent increase year on year and the fastest sales growth since February 2014, when sales grew 43.1 percent.

    Huawei Honor brand

HUAWEI Technologies Co. Ltd.’s Honor brand has sold 20 million smartphones in the first half of 2015 and should reach its goal of 40 million shipments by the year end, double the 2014 figure.

Honor’s sales amounted to US$2.6 billion of revenue during the first half of the year, Honor president George Zhao said at the launch of the Honor 7 phone in Beijing.

Shenzhen-based Huawei, the world’s No. 4 handset maker, has invested heavily in the past two years to establish Honor as a stand-alone brand to compete against Beijing-based Xiaomi Inc. to win over young, fashion-conscious customers.
