Artist creates tiny pieces of pottery
     2015-July-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FROM teapots to flower vases, the tiny works of art all feature the same intricate detail as their larger counterparts — despite being scaled down.

American Jon Almeda is the man behind these tiny works of art — which usually measure no more than one inch (2.54 cm) in length.

Almeda is happy to turn his hand to most challenges, and has created replica teapots, vases and bowls as part of his extensive collection.

Using a custom-designed pottery wheel, Almeda is able to recreate the artistic designs to perfection before he paints and glazes them.

On his website, Almeda said: “For many years I was throwing massive pieces, the bigger the better type mentality.

“While browsing a book store, I came across a book called ‘Creating Ceramic Miniatures’ that really changed my whole outlook and approach.”

“Throwing small really allows me to focus on the shape and form of a piece,” he continued. “It is a very meditative form of creation.

“I enjoy the process of making small vases and bowls without any scale of context look exactly like their larger counterpart in detail and proportion.”(SD-Agencies)
