Divorce
CHINESE director Wang Quan’an has confirmed his divorce from his actress wife Zhang Yuqi. Wang, 50, says the two have reached an amicable agreement. Zhang confirmed the news on social media Thursday.
The breakup had been widely expected. Wang was released from jail last month after being busted for hiring a prostitute in September. He won best screenplay at the Berlin International Film Festival for his 2010 work “Tuan Yuan.”
‘Empire’
MARISA TOMEI has joined season two of the Fox smash TV show “Empire.”
Tomei will recur as Mimi Whiteman, a demanding venture capitalist who becomes involved with the Lyon family. The Forbes-list billionaire is a lover of hip-hop, social trends, high-end fashion and beautiful women. Tomei joins a growing list of impressive guest-stars, including Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz and Adam Rodriguez. The new season began shooting in June.
Radio show
DR. DRE announced Friday a new radio show called “The Pharmacy” on Apple Music. The hour-long show dedicated to West Coast music streams every other Saturday. Apple’s new streaming service features live radio programing, including shows hosted by Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden and Julie Adenuga. The service is giving users a free trial for three months and will later charge US$10 per month.
New film
CHEN KAIGE’S latest film “Monk Comes Down the Mountain” was released in Chinese cinemas Friday. Starring Wang Baoqiang, Aaron Kwok and actress Lin Chiling, the 3-D martial arts feature is set in China between 1912 and 1949.
Based on the best-selling novel by Xu Haofeng, it tells the story of a Taoist priest who returns to society after a life of seclusion in the mountains. A series of events leads him on a path to mastering the essence of martial arts.
