    THE Shekou Ferry Terminal will be relocated to Shekou Prince Bay in 2017, Shekou TV Station reported Monday.

    Service at the Shekou Ferry Terminal will not be interrupted as a new terminal is built. The current terminal is 30 years old, according to the report.

    The new ferry center is part of the Prince Bay project, where a port for cruise ships is being built.

    “We plan the relocation in 2017. It all depends on the construction progress,” said Zeng Zhi, the manager of the Marketing and Clients Service Department of China Merchant Shekou Ferry Terminal Services Co. Ltd.

    The Shekou Ferry Terminal offers ferry services linking Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao.

    An increasing number of passengers is straining the current facility, though renovated several times over the past few decades, the report said.

    Passengers have said they wished the terminal was larger. It is outdated compared to other terminals.

    A man even expressed disappointment when he entered the ferry terminal building.

    “The Prince Bay ferry center will be able to harbor a ferry weighing 220,000 tons,” said Qi Mingzhu, the manager of the Service Department of Prince Bay project.

    “It will function as customs, commercial center and transportation hub at the same time,” Qi said.

    The new ferry center will have 12 floors and occupy 40,000 square meters of the Prince Bay project’s total land space.

    The terminal is being built on land reclaimed from the sea. The first phase of land reclamation has been finished recently.

    Shekou is believed to have the largest expatriate community in Shenzhen.
