FUTIAN Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Hospital was upgraded to a university-affiliated hospital under a contract signed yesterday between the hospital and the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine.
Financially sponsored by the Futian District Government, the hospital will change its name to Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine Shenzhen Hospital. The university will be responsible for operating and managing the upgraded hospital.
“The hospital reform is a significant move because it will incorporate a more efficient and balanced system that separates administration from medical services,” said Dr. Zhang Tianfeng, head of the hospital.
Wang Shengliang, the president of the university, will chair the hospital’s council and has the right to appoint the head of the hospital.
Also, senior TCM experts from the university will be stationed at the hospital. Patients will be able to see the TCM doctors in Shenzhen instead of having to travel to Guangzhou.
Zhang said experts will be arranged to conduct classes and clinical studies at the hospital.
Futian TCM Hospital is located on Fuhua Road in Futian District. It specifies in providing traditional Chinese healthcare services to patients such as Chinese herbs and acupuncture.
Becoming a university-affiliated hospital is considered an upgrade for a hospital because it will gain more medical resources and more advanced medical technology. The Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, founded in 1956, is one of China’s most renowned universities of traditional Chinese medicine.
