IF you thought carrying a backpack was hard enough while traveling, try transporting a piano.
Aspiring U.S. actor Dotan Negrin is not afraid of a challenge. He decided to sell all his possessions, buy a truck and set out around the world with the only two essentials he needed — his adorable dog, Brando, and a 500-pound (226-kilogram) upright piano.
Five years later and the adventurous duo have visited over 300 cities in 21 countries, sharing his love of music with people from the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Europe.
The journey began back in 2010, when New York-based Negrin quit his day job and took to the road in pursuit of a new life.
With a truck he bought on eBay able to transport his piano, him and Brando — he was ready to share his passion for music with whoever would listen.
During his five-year adventure, which included driving from New York to Central America and back in seven months in 2013, the musical explorer estimates he has so far met and interacted with 10,000 individuals.
“I literally put together everything I loved about life: travel, making music and performing, and meeting people,” Negrin said.
“Don’t get me wrong, this was by no means an easy life. Moving a piano is really really hard... I once had a piano fall on my hand and broke two fingers.”
From hopping from one job to another after college, Negrin has now ticked off many bucket-list ventures. These have included playing overlooking the breathtaking Grand Canyon and iconic Eiffel Tower.
Negrin advises to talk to local individuals upon reaching a new destination and to not have a concrete plan in mind.
His laid-back approach has helped him to discover the paths-not-so-trodden and even towns that people would not normally think to visit.
Negrin’s adventures can be followed on his website, pianoaroundtheworld.com and on his Instagram.(SD-Agencies)
