    New train route

    A NEW high-speed train route from Shenzhen to Chongqing is launched Friday.

    The train departs from Shenzhen at 7:43 a.m. and arrives at Chongqing North Railway Station at 7:35 p.m., cutting the traveling time by 20 hours compared to regular trains. The fares are 2,472.5 yuan (US$399) for a VIP seat, 1,164 yuan for a first-class seat and 808 yuan for a second-class seat. Riders can book tickets on the rail’s website, www.12306.cn, or call 12306.

    More Urumqi flights

    SHENZHEN Airlines will add more flights from Shenzhen to Urumqi via Lanzhou on a daily basis starting Aug. 10, increasing the number of flights between the two cities to two flights a day.

    Flight ZH9121 will depart from Shenzhen at 2:50 p.m. and arrive at Lanzhou at 6:10 p.m. It will continue the trip at 7:20 p.m. from Lanzhou and arrive at Urumqi at 10:15 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

    The Sunday flight will depart at 3:20 p.m. and arrive at Urumqi at 10:15 p.m., Shenzhen Airlines said.

    Jade smuggler caught

    A MAN was recently caught smuggling 54 jade bracelets with a market value of 540,000 yuan into Hong Kong via Luohu Checkpoint.

    To evade punishment, the man even claimed the bracelets were cheap products that he bought from street peddlers. An official assessment showed the bracelets were each worth around 10,000 yuan.

    The case is still under investigation.

    Jealousy murder

    A MAN surnamed Zhong killed his wife’s colleague and then himself during an argument after Zhong saw him carrying his wife home after work on an electric bike early Wednesday morning in Fuyong, Bao’an District. The 31-year-old woman, surnamed Huang, suffered a slight injury to her left arm while trying to prevent the tragedy, according to police.

    Flight to Ho Chi Minh

    CHINA Southern Airlines will open a flight from Shenzhen to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, starting Friday.

    Flight CZ8465/6, which operates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departs from Shenzhen at 5:50 p.m. and arrives in Ho Chi Minh City at 8:40 p.m. It returns at 9:30 p.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 12:25 a.m., Shenzhen International Airport said.

    HK man saved

    A HONG KONG man who suffered from an aneurysms-type brain disorder in a Shenzhen street was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

    The man, surnamed Wang, suddenly felt the right half of his body go limp when he was dining at a restaurant in Huaqiangbei on July 23.

    He was unable to speak and had trouble walking as he exited the restaurant. Several pedestrians called medical service hotline 120 and helped him contact his family with his mobile phone.

    Dead after infusion

    A MAN, Chen Kaiying, 52, slipped into a coma for eight days and was pronounced dead Wednesday after he had an infusion at an illegal clinic in Shajing, Bao’an District.

    Police have arrested the doctor, who was practicing medicine without a license, and the clinic has been closed for operating without a license.

    14m yuan intercepted

    SHENZHEN police helped intercept 14.56 million yuan (US$2.38 million) that was being transferred by fraudsters to eight illegal accounts after they received a report from an Internet technology company in Beijing.

    The manager of the company, surnamed Chen, and other company employees realized that eight client accounts had been modified by hackers July 23 and called Beijing police for help. Chen later learned that only Shenzhen’s anti-fraud center could initiate a response quick enough to intercept and freeze the suspected accounts.
