    Hand over fist

    迅速地

    Hand over fist字面解释是“手在拳头上地”。这是什么意思?请看对话:

A: I met John in a pub over the weekend. He looked depressed and drank heavily.

B: Several months ago, those guys made money out of the stock market hand over fist. But their good days are history.

Note: "Hand over fist" is an American idiom and started as "hand over hand." It's a nautical saying about climbing the rigging of a ship. By the 19th century, it had evolved to "hand over fist," and was used to refer to taking in something, like money, rapidly. It is now used more generally to mean "speedily, increasingly, at a tremendous rate." So we can also use it when we lose money quickly. Like: Business was bad and we were losing money hand over fist. Another example: Developers are putting up cheap new houses hand over fist in the town.
